February 2005
Artist: 280 WEST f/ DIAMOND TEMPLE
Title: "Fly (Blaze remix)"
Label: Phuture Sole
Format: PS-006-CD PROMO
Phuture Sole Recordings continue to deliver the goods
in the form of quality, cutting-edge house music. On
this project, the mighty Blaze add their Midas touch
to 280 West & Diamond Temple' s original piece which
was earlier released (on the same imprint) in 2004.
Blaze's "Roots" version does not stray away from the
previous original offering, in that it purveys a
similar take home message as the first: a gentle, and
harmonious vocal journey!
Of course, Kevin Hedge's typical production style is
showcased here, together with percussive elements,
subtle piano riffs, and a groovy, underlying bassline
that blends the whole song wonderfully.
In addition to the vocal and instrumental versions, we
also find a quasi, pianopella-ish 4-minute "Temple
Dynasty Mix", which is beautifully arranged and
vocally performed by Felicia Temple: a downtempo
gem!!!!
Wondering what PS-007 will sound like!!!!!!!!!
Artist: KENNY BOBIEN f/ ANN NESBY
Title: "Spread Love"
Label: Soul Groove
Format: CDR (SGR-009)
Probably considered as one of 2004's biggest and most
talked about vocal track, "Spread Love" is a marriage
between lush garage production and soaring,
spirit-moving vocals. While the veteran coupling of
Bobien and Nesby hold it down sho' nuff on the vocal
tip, LLV handles business as usual on the production
side of things, offering us a peak into his more
gospel-oriented house influences. And as expected,
this all-star team comes through with mucho flying
colours!
Pundits will not only be content with the main
"Shelter Mix", but will also be enlightened by 3 other
very DJ-friendlyversions: "Shelter Beats", "Roots Mix"
and "Spirit Dub".
Of note are the background vocal offerings of Michelle
Weeks, Stephanie Cooke, Dawn Tallman, and Maurice
Lauchner, most of whom are considered as top notch
solo vocalists on their own.
On this, their 9th release, Soul Groove Records and
executive producer, Shaheer Williams, demonstrate just
how much they mean business!!!
